 SunExpress was founded in October 1989 and started scheduled direct flights from Anatolian cities to important centers in Germany in 1990 for the first time in Turkey. It organized its first charter flight from Antalya to Frankfurt, Germany on April 2, 1990. SunExpress was founded by Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa companies. SunExpress, which has been organizing touristic charter flights between Europe and Antalya for a long time, especially Germany, became the first private airline in Turkey to organize scheduled flights abroad, with the Antalya-Frankfurt flights launched in 2001.

SunExpress is an airline company based in Antalya, Turkey. The headquarters of SunExpress is Antalya Airport. It opened its second center in March 2006 in Izmir. The airline company opened its third base at Ankara Esenboğa Airport. With an average of 84 aircraft in 2019, it had the largest fleet in the company's history. Today, the airline, which hosts more than 10 million guests every year with flights to 90 destinations in 30 countries, has more than 4500 employees.
