Batman is a city located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. It is surrounded by Diyarbakır in the west, Muş in the north, Siirt and Bitlis in the east, and Mardin in the south. Like other cities in the region, Batman has a rich historical past. It has managed to become one of the important cities with its bridges from the Middle Ages, thousands of years old caves, ancient cities and historical monuments.
Hasankeyf: It is one of the most famous historical places not only in Turkey but also in the world. This ancient city, which was taken under protection, hosted important states that ruled in Mesopotamia.
Hasankeyf Castle: It is considered as one of the most valuable places in Batman.
Hasankeyf Yolgeçen Inn: This inn is located in the cave under Hasankeyf Castle. One end of the cave rests on the Tigris River and it is possible to go inside the castle by a secret road. Today, it serves as a restaurant.
Hallan Çemi Mound: It is one of the most important archaeological excavation areas reflecting the Neolithic period. This place, also known as Çemi Holla by the local people, has a history of 11 thousand years.
Batman Museum: Artifacts unearthed after the Old Stone Age are exhibited in this museum. The most important artifacts in the museum are the Game Stones, Obelisk, Tun Grave Gifts and the Statue of God Bes, which were excavated in 2011.
Mor Aha Monastery: It is one of the important structures of the Assyrians. It is also known as Deyr Mahar among the people. In its construction, cut stones and rubble were used.
Mor Kiryakus Monastery: It is one of the important monasteries built by Assyrians in and around Batman. It was built in 457 AD in the Turabidin region, which was a sacred place for Assyrians. It is among the must-see places with its underground cellar.
Zeynel Bey Cupola: It is the first mausoleum found in Anatolia. Although the exact date of construction is unknown, it is thought to have been built during the reign of Zeynel Bey, one of the Akkoyunlu rulers.
